Make Working Remotely Function Smoothly and Safely with These Tips

2 Mins read

We are one year into the pandemic, yet the “new normal” doesn’t always feel normal. Hopefully, the adjustments people have made over the past months to make working from home feel more comfortable have been successful, but the challenges are complex.

Here are a few tips that may help.

Comfortable Furniture

Some offices have ergonomic furniture designed to be comfortable to work in for hours at a time. If you sit at a computer briefly, your wrists are unlikely to cramp up, but that changes if you’re there for multiple hours a day, a few days a week.

Deciding to get a wrist pad to lay down on the table could help, as could investing in an office chair with back support.

Professional Shredding

Remote work may mean people have office documents stored where they live, which in turn invites risks of corporate sabotage, identity theft, and others. You may rest easier if you engage commercial document destruction services that can come to your home, and nothing could be more convenient.

The best professional shredders have mobile trucks that can eliminate sensitive papers right from the curbside. All you need to do is give them a call, and they’ll be there.

If you are continually producing paper documents that need to be shredded, you can schedule a bi-weekly or monthly pick-up, as needed. The best professional shredders also eliminate electronic devices and information in unconventional forms, like packaging, uniforms, ID cards, and more.

Work from Home Attire

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you should spend your workweek in a bathrobe. You don’t need to be in a suit and tie, nor should you be in undergarments.

Find a happy medium and wear comfortable clothes that make you feel like you’re still dressing up in the morning, even if they’re commuter pants, sweatpants, or other gear you wouldn’t necessarily wear to the office.

Nobody expects you to be wearing a suit when you have that Zoom meeting, but even though there’s currently an attitude of forgiveness and low expectations, there is something to be said for being at least a little put together.

Control the Music

One great thing about working from home is you can be the DJ of your workday. Try to play the music that helps you focus rather than makes you dance.

Many people listen to classical music at work or other genres that don’t have any lyrics, as hearing words can be distracting and pull your focus away. So long as you enjoy the music and can get your work done, play whatever you want!

Everybody’s work life at home is different, and nobody is having an easy time right now. Parents need to juggle their careers and their children’s needs, and people without kids still face the uphill challenges of managing stress and productivity amid working in a pandemic. Keep the above tips in mind, and hopefully, you’ll have an easier time.
