History of Himalayan salt

The name Himalayan salt clearly suggests that it comes from areas around Himalaya. Specifically, the salt is mined from the khewra salt mines, approx. 5000 feet underneath the Himalayan Mountain range, district Jhelum, Punjab Pakistan. The khewra salt mines are the oldest and the largest mines of Pakistan, and the second largest in the world.

The Himalayan pink salt has an ancient history as old as 300 million years, when the salt was dissolved in the oceans. With the passage of time, the oceans dried up leaving behind the deposits of salt in the form of rocks. Since then, the Himalayan salt has conserved its purity and the mineral content as it is covered by the blanket of mountains.
