What is RPA?

Robotic Process Automation or RPA is an innovative form of business automation. It is the utilization of the software or Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the enterprise processes, to perform human-run, mundane, and repetitive tasks.

Teaming up with artificial intelligence, RPA security can be utilized for sophistication in the analysis of data. High productivity and effective functioning, is relatively easier to achieve with RPA software.

Sarah Burnett, Vice President of Research at the Everest Group says, “RPA is the next wave of innovation, which will change outsourcing. We already are seeing the beginnings of a race to become the top automation-enabled service provider in the industry. In time, we are likely to see an arms-race for innovation in automation tools leading to new offerings and delivery models”.

How does RPA software work and what is it used for?

The RPA technology uses the word “robotic”, because of the software’s ability to work in place of a human. The idea is to place software for repetitive works that can be imitated with the help of an algorithm. It does tasks in a way that is similar to tasks being done by a human. Example handling databases

Tasks that are extremely laborious and repetitive, like monitoring, regression testing, Enterprise Resource Planning, etc., can be processed by software instead of a human resource.  RPA solutions add to the accuracy and consistency of the work done and hence are highly sought after.

How is RPA relevant to Job industry?

Business operations require constant upgrading with cost reductions to improve profit margins. The high productivity and low input nature of RPA attract the industry.

RPA security reduces the outsourcing and requirement of any third party apart from the system and the consumer data. The employees are free to utilize their time in exploring innovative pathways to grow business and generate more revenue, once the cycle of manual procedures is eliminated.

Effect of RPA on jobs

The RPA system is a literal opportunity for humans to work in perfect harmony with machines. New work models will require a different skill set to meet the employment criteria. This adds to the constantly evolving progress of human intelligence.

While RPA will cause a decline in the number of manual input jobs, it will open up the job scenario for skilled humans. ERP based processes are being transformed with RPA automation. Organizations are restructuring their ERP implementation to accommodate the growing need for perfection and errorless tasks.

The professional requirement to work on such projects will require prior knowledge of both ERP and RPA. It will put the more learned at an advantage. The avenues for using RPA software has changed the avenues for such skilled individuals. The companies have now become more generous in their approach towards employees. They now provide creative freedom and focus more on employee engagement and betterment to improve its brand image.

Why RPA Will Not Destroy Jobs?

RPA aims at replacing a good part of the workforce, but that is solely for tasks that can be copied by a pre-written software algorithm. Humans are an undeniable requirement for any industry.

Once the RPA systems are in place, the saved revenues will help introduce the idea of expansion to the companies whose previous focus was on functioning steadily. To keep up with the rivals utilizing similar RPAs to manage their work, companies would require more creative ideas.

A machine may complete the tasks as instructed and directed, learn from its own patterns, or may make changes to its working. But, when it comes to innovation, bringing in new ideas to work and implementing them, human resources become inevitable.

What does RPA promise?

RPA promises accuracy and security, more than the manual methods. This makes its maintenance a necessity for the companies. With more companies embracing the RPA security, there will be a hike in the number of people needed to run and maintain those systems. Thus, RPA births more jobs in whichever sector it is applied.

There is already a growing demand for developers, solution architects, analysts, and RPA champions. Anyone with a relevant qualification in the computer science and technology field, can educate themselves about RPA and advance in their career. RPA certification is accessible and trained professionals are always welcome for such jobs.

RPA platform will produce more advanced jobs. The ability to work with sophisticated systems will accompany higher salaries.

Employment in the tech/IT industry requires constant learning and evolution. The machines undergo technological changes and the handlers have to upgrade themselves accordingly. The competition has only leveled up.

If we observe the current jobs, we will notice that the job titles and job roles that did not exist a decade ago are in high demand. This proves the theory that with better technology, we have better jobs. The industry’s requirement pushes the applicants towards better productivity. This means they will improve their skill set, leading to their professional and personal improvement. The technology revolution directly or indirectly will always impact the work ethic of the employees in a positive way.

Conclusion

RPA is very likely to eliminate a lot of previously existing job opportunities. However, the change is more towards advancement than the destruction of the job scenario. This is a positive sign and it will only reduce the masses of unskilled labor, which would not have survived the rising competition. Thus, encouraging them to be more learned and advance their careers, and improve their overall standard of living.
