How to Find Clients as a Freelancer

2 Mins read

If you’re a freelancer, the world is yours. You set your own schedule, don’t report to any boss, and don’t have to waste time and money going to and from a job. Tons of people hate their bosses; you’re on top of the world.

However, you also need to find clients. The disadvantage of freelancing work is that you’re responsible for yourself. You can turn this disadvantage into an advantage if you know the right freelancer tips.

This article will walk you through some tips to attract clients and gain freelancing jobs.

Start With Your Network

There’s no better place to start than your own network of family and friends. Everyone has to start somewhere, and completing quick work for your friend’s business can be a great way to build your portfolio and beef up your resume.

Don’t worry about going to networking events right away. It’s better to make friends than it is to make connections. Quality over quantity is the way to go when you’re making connections.

Even if you’re doing a job for your best friend or cousin, give that work your all. You don’t know who might encounter that work and hire you. You don’t know who your best friend or cousin might know. When you focus on quality, quantity is sure to come.

Feel free to ask your friends and family if they know anyone else who can use your work. Just like a spider spinning his web, you’ll slowly accrue a steady stream of work.

Find Your Niche

In the world of freelance, you need something that makes you stand out. What’s your particular style? How are you different from competitors?

Finding your niche goes beyond style, however. Make sure that you study client patterns. Which ones are worth investing time into, and which ones aren’t?

Figure out a daily schedule for yourself. While you get to make your own schedule, it is important that you make a schedule and not leave every day up to chance.

Since you’re fielding all of your own clients, it’s important you balance your workload. You don’t want to take too many clients and find yourself overwhelmed; then you’ll end up performing. Conversely, you don’t want to take too few clients, and not be able to pay your bills.

Always Find Clients For Your Freelance Work

Freelancers have the whole world in their hands — if they can find clients. Once you become a genius at attracting clients by starting with a network and finding a niche, you’ll realize just how much better off you have it than those who have to wake up and drive to get lorded over by a boss every day.
